We all jumped out of bed at 0500, had our gear organized for the morning and where down in the lobby by 0545 for our box breakfast which cost $12 and had one croissant, one apple and one apple juice. They supplied free coffee in the lobby. I made up for it with the towels I took for rags to service bikes. We all headed out in the dark for the ferry which was only about 10kms but it was only about 1C, COLD! Ferry ride was uneventful and another $10 for coffee, banana and muffin. All 33 riders were first off the ferry; we rode up the road about 2km and met our three support vans carrying all out luggage. I quickly put on a vest. We rode in three groups about 50kms to downtown Victoria and got all if our luggage out of the support vans who were leaving us to head back to Vancouver. We cleared customs at 1430 and boarded the ferry to Port Angeles Washington were we cleared US customs, then loaded all of our gear onto our five 15 passenger vans that we will have until Texas. Then the surprise was the reception from the city of Port Angeles at the city center with an awesome dinner and then families who volunteered to billet us over night in their homes. The family Gord and I stayed at were incredibly hospitable and opened their home to us for the evening. We will have breakfast with them and they will drive us back for 0730 to start Day 2.
